The Golden Key Stellenbosch Chapter made 2050 sandwiches on Thursday (5 May) that were given to the Feeding in Action Project in Stellenbosch. The sandwiches were distributed to the needy at 15 locations in the Stellenbosch area, including schools in Ida’s Valley, Cloetesville, Kayamandi and Jamestown. Ms Zanelle van Zyl, a BAcc student and coordinator of the Toasties for Tummies project, the largest of the Stellenbosch chapter’s community interaction projects, said the project is a practical example of how Stellenbosch students can use an initiative of this nature to help give shape to SU’s HOPE Project. “We’re obviously very excited that we reached and exceeded our target of 2000 sandwiches. About 185 Maties helped to make sandwiches. The goal of the day was to bring relief to people who really don’t have something to eat, but of course it does almost as much for the students who made the sandwiches too.” About 200 loaves were used for the projects – purchased by the Golden Key Stellenbosch Chapter.
