This event is annually held coinciding with the NMMU’s open day. This year it was Saturday, 7 May 2011. The patron of Ubuntu is Patron Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and Golden Key Honorary Member. ‘Ubuntu Education Fund is reaching the people who count, saying, “You are not helpless, you are not ciphers that can be manipulated. You are people who can prepare your own thoughts.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Patron, Ubuntu Education Fund. Ubuntu’s objective is to create stable environments where children and their families can thrive. This year the theme of the NMMU Open Day was: Be a better U. In other words, be a better you, individual etc. The learners from the Ubuntu Education Fund on arrival were addressed by Clement Papy Nkubuzi who encouraged them to get as much information as possible from the different faculties’ stalls. The Chapter President Devandré Boonzaaier introduced the GK members and outlined how the programme was going to run as well as welcomed them. The groups were divided into 4 groups which were to be headed by each of the GK members available. They were then given an hour to visit the stalls inside the sport centre.

By giving we can uplift individuals, families and communities and ultimately facilitate change all over the world. I am proud to be a part of Golden Key Pretora which aim to enable members to spend their lives on something that will outlast them.”
