Annual Leadership Workshop at WITS

Body:

Each year, the WITS GK Chapter hosts a Leadership Workshop for students on Campus. The workshop uses experiential learning to challenge participants to think outside the box in brainstorming solutions to issues students and young people are often faced with whilst at school and university. True to Golden Key's ethos, the workshop content varies each year yet inevitably touches on the three pillars of Golden Key, Leadership, Academic Pursuit and Service. The work-shop contains valuable lessons on team work as well as situational leadership. The work-shop was facilitated by Dr Derek Swemmer, former Registrar of the University of the Witwatersrand. This year, in celebration the 10th Anniversary of the Honour Society in South Africa as well as in the spirit of Women’s Month, the Chapter decided to host the 2010 leadership Workshop for the first set of matric hopefuls at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.

On 21 August 2010, the Executive Committee and advisors, Dr Derek Swemmer (Registrar) at the University of the Witwatersrand and Mrs Lamese Abrahams, Head of the Student and Leadership Development unit helped facilitate the workshop titled “Action Centred Leadership”.
